Service Minute

On Genie® mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) equipped with Deutz engines, it is important to know and understand the machine’s display information in order to control maintenance repair time because controlling maintenance repair time is critical to lowering fleet costs.

Below are key display information and how to interpret what is going on with the MEWP:

  • If the DEF light is on, the DEF level is low.
  • Interpreting Display Information on Deutz EnginesIf the DEF light is flashing, the DEF level is very low
  • When the DEF light and the check engine light are both on, tag and remove the machine from service, contacting service personnel as soon as possible. When the lights are on, torque and engine speed may be reduced.
  • Engine emissions standstill (regeneration) indicator light flashing (slow flash): Perform SCR cleaning operation.
  • Engine emissions standstill (regeneration) indicator light on: Perform SCR cleaning operation running.
  • Engine emissions standstill (regeneration) indicator light flashing (fast flash): Contact service personnel as soon as possible.
  • Engine emissions standstill (regeneration) disabled: Contact service personnel as soon as possible.
  • Engine emissions exhaust temperature high/standstill (regeneration) active: If standstill has not be activated, the exhaust gas temperature exceeds maximum allowed value: Contact service personnel as soon as possible.

When SCR cleaning operation needs to be performed, these steps offer best practices to completing the task in a timely, efficient manner:

  1. Park the machine on flat, level ground. Lower and retract the elevating structure. Do not operate the machine while the SCR cleaning operation is running.
  2. Be sure the engine is warm while the SCR cleaning operation is running.
  3. Locate the SCR cleaning operation switch on the engine dashboard.
  4. Press the right side of the switch. The cleaning operation will run automatically and takes approximately 35 minutes.
  5. Return the machine to service.

Whether in the shop or the field, when a MEWP is being serviced or repaired it costs time and money. Correctly interpreting what is going on with a MEWP’s Deutz engine can help control maintenance repair time and positively impact the bottom line.
